I was there in ‘87, still can’t believe RJD is no longer with us – look at Ronnie’s career and professionalism and compare that to the likes of Rose, Tyler and Nugent, hmmmmmm…….need I say anymore. RIP RJD.

I hope this release is of good quality as a tribute to RJD , and not a 2nd class rip-off / cash grab . Still 83 will be Holy Diver and Rainbow tunes , while 87 should touch on Dream Evil .

I was there in ‘87 as well and the set did touch on Dream Evil as well as other classic Dio numbers. Both gigs were recorded for radio broadcast so they should be good quality hopefully.
Just for the record, in ‘87 I left after Dio’s set to avoid B*n J*vi, nuff said !

Master Hare

Both good shows – Dio never did bad ones! – but I’d say Hammersmith ‘84 showed them at their peak. That was also recorded by the BBC, so let’s hope it gets a release too. RiP, Ronnie.

I still can’t believe RJD is gone either, just doesn’t seem right to think of him in the past tense. Still life goes on and it’s good to hear of these two Donington shows. I’ve had the bootlegs for years and they’re great. RIP RJD.

Same here folks – I’m still finding it hard to believe that the Great Man has gone. Was at Donington in ‘83 and Dio were brilliant, looking forward to this release.

Does anyone know if they did All The Fools Sailed Away at Donington in ‘87?

Literally any other artist would be branded a sellout for this. Or at least, his wife would be accused of abusing his legacy.

I love Ronnie James Dio to pieces – great singer, great songwriter, managed to fit into a supergroup setting and also hold together a tight band of his own – who were consistently very good an awful lot of the time.

But the tracklists are pretty similar to each other on this release’s two CDs. Especially when you consider Dio live albums were put out in 2006 (from his 2005 tour) and 2005 (From his 2002 tour).

This is also on the back of Black Sabbath: Live At Hammersmith Odeon ‘81 (2007 as limited edition release, 2010 tacked on to the end of the Mob Rules special edition) and Heaven & Hell Live At Radio City Music Hall (2007).

Two live albums in the 80s, 1 in the 90s, 4 in the 00s, launching the 10s like this strikes me as excessive. Even Iron Maiden never achieved 4 live albums in one decade!

There in ‘83 too. The two shows to be released have circulated for a while as ROIOs, I believe sourced from FM broadcasts (‘87 for sure). Tracks from ‘87 were Dream Evil; Neon Knights; Naked In The Sun; R&R Children/Long Live R&R; Last In Line medley incl. Temple Of The King, Holy Diver, H&H, Man On The Silver Mountain, All The Fools Sailed Away; Rainbow In The Dark. At 50mins long presumably this wasn’t the full set list. It’ll be great if the whole set gets an official release. I’m with Master Hare about the ‘84 Hammy gig, stupendous. It’s sad that Ronnie’s gone, but wonderful that in his last few years he finally got the respect he deserved after being out of fashion, or even ridiculed, for a decade.

The Vivian Campbell/Bain/Appice line-up of Dio was always my favourite, so the first disc will be particularly welcome with me!
There was a fantastic live bootleg of the 1983 ‘Holy Diver’ tour called ‘Roughly Dio’ which outstripped the subsequent ‘Intermission’ EP both in terms of song choices and overall sound quality. Wish I could lay my hands on a digital copy of that! I also agree with a previous comment about the 1984 gig. I recall taping it from Tommy Vance’s ‘Friday Rock Show’ and that would be a great posthumous release, too.

This awesome! I was there for both festivals, 1983 being my first time, and this will make an awesome addition to rock music collection. Thanks Ronnie. RIP

was one of the highlights of MOR 83. He’ll be much missed.

I remember taping the 83 show from tommy vance and I can assure you its a killer show – only 45 mins but he squeezed everything in and I have been trying to find this set for years

Cant wait!

Was there in 83, from the opening song to the end of the set it was worth the entrance fee on its own. They should have been higher up the cast list!!, FFS it`s Ronie James Dio!!! When the opening chords of Stargazer rang out you have to remember the hairs standing up on the back of your neck. The man will always be a legend.
