Dio Memorial Gigs To Be Staged In London and LA
Classic Rock understands that two major concerts are being planned to celebrate the life of the late Ronnie James Dio.
Details are sketchy at present, but what is for sure is that the gigs are going to be dubbed Ronnie James Dio ‘Stand Up And Shout’ Memorial Concerts.
They will take place in London and Los Angeles in autumn 2010.
Speculation is mounting that the shows will feature the surviving members of Heaven And Hell – Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice – with Judas Priest’s Rob Halford filling in for Dio on vocals. But we must stress this has not been confirmed.
However, as Halford has deputised for both Dio and Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath before, a precedent has already been set.
Heaven And Hell And Halford – or H&H&H for short – has a certain ring about it, don’t you think?
Full details of Dio’s Memorial Concerts are to be announced shortly, so we suggest you stay tuned to www.ronniejamesdio.com for further info.

And PEOPLE, please, before RUMORS go flying around. Don ‘t go saying Halford is gonna join H&H! It will only piss off Priest fans and just cause trouble. If it does POSSIBLY happen, let us all keep kool. There is room for Priest, Sabs, H&H and even Halford (THE BAND)!! Thank you.
A Heaven & Hell show with Halford on vocals is a far cry from celebrating RJD’s life in R’n'R although the sentiment is laudable. What about the Elf and Rainbow numbers – are they gonna play them – and could anyone other than Blackmore do them justice? Could they entice the MiB out for a one off? … and for God’s sake find a better singer.
If they want to carry on as H&H then they should find a new singer and do just that. Iommi and Butler have plenty more in them yet.
Count me in whatever the line up is. This is one event that deserves to b e sold out.
Tony Martin was a great singer in his days with Black Sabbath,He has the range to sing Dio songs so why not him.
Whoever sings it doesn’t matter,Its all about remembering RJD!
No tribute to RJD would be complete without reference to the Rainbow years, and I can’t think of anything more appropriate than A Light In The Black as the theme for the show.
I would anticipate three bands, one being H&H, one Dio’s Band and one Rainbow with Blackmore and Carey, or alternatively Jurgen Blackmore and his band if dad can’t make it.
Not sure about vocalists, but Halford….?
Nobody can ever fill Ronnie’s giant sized shoes.
Ever.
However, the man to do closest justice would be Jorn Lande.
It should certainly encompass all of his work, from Elf in the early 70’s right through to Heaven & Hell. I would be awesome not to just get the survivng members of Heaven & Hell but also, Ritchie and his son Jurgen, as well as, some of Dio’s friends like Brian May, Lemmy and of course Rob, to do a fantastic memorial gig. Even a small UK tour would be cool.
I agree with Randy. Tony Martin was brilliant. They should regroup with him. It’d be brilliant.
yer all a bunch of dicks. RONNIE RULES!!!
