Def Leppard are putting together a live album, and might include an EP of new songs.
Frontman Joe Elliott told billboard.com: “We’ve got tentative plans to do a four- or five-track EP of new songs as part of it…”Vivian [Campbell, guitar) has been in the band 17 years, so I think he deserves a shot at being on a live record”.

since Steve Clark died, this band sucks, tell me just one decent song in 20 years. Vivian Campbell is a bloody puppet , where are the guitars?.it has no sense to continue without Steve really.
I think Songs From the Sparkle Lounge was a cracking album, Nine Live, C’mon, C’mom and Go are all classics. I think Slang is under-rated. Yeah is good as well, their version of Rock On is way better than David Essex’s.
oh f***k off
their last few albums have been very middle of the road but still contain some great rock tracks. And live they can still do it better than all th new hair at right angle skinny jean wearing trends.
jerks like you don’t realise good music when you hear it, if they are that bad how come they did an arena tour, extra dates and blew 100,000 fans away at download? as for decent songs, try listening to Songs from the Sparkle lounge, tracks like GO, CRUISE CONTROL, HALLUCINATE. NUFF SAID! yeah steve was the heartbeat of def leppard, but i get fed up of people saying they haven’t done anything since he died.
This is great news. Granted, the band has probably never produced anything quite as epic and mindblowing as Hysteria but their output since the late eighties has still been very good. Euphoria, Retroactive and Sparkle Lounge are great albums and, as Andrew rightly points out, Slang is vastly under-rated. I have always enjoyed Leppard as a live band and they were kick-ass when I saw them back in 2003. I hope this live album covers all the different eras.
Speaking as a fan since 1987, I agree with… most of the above comments(!) Leppard lost their greatness following the death of Steve Clarke. Their first 4 albums are stone cold classics. Adrenalize was the beginning of the end as far as classic Leppard albums is concerned. In saying that, I too think that ‘Slang’ is very underrated, probably their best post Clarke album. X, Euphoria, Sparkle Lounge… not worth talking about really, aside from one or two tracks, and even they wouldn’t have even made it as High N Dry B Sides.
Not really a fan of this lot,and Elliots voice is dire. However got a soft spot for how he tried to make afew quid for the late Mick Ronson, nice one Joe.That said All i want is everything is a brilliant song .
Same ol’ record…
It’s the same with Metallica, many people states that with the tragic departure of Cliff Metallica are shite and all that. Steve was a great guitar player indeed, but this is a band and not a one man show, Phil has a unique style of playing and Viv is a great player on his own. Yes I agree with ANDREW – Slang is so under rated as an album, Its one of my fav. Their latest – Songs from the Sparkle Lounge is a welcoming return to a more Rock sound.
As for the Live album, all I can say is; it’s about F**king time!!!
I’ve made up my mind that I’m done with this band. Def Lep used to be innovators, but now they’re just chasing what Bon Jovi did years earlier, like the country crossover stuff (Tim McGraw, the tone-deaf Taylor Swift) and bland AOR. I do agree with the comments about Slang — great album. Euphoria was better than Adrenalize. Anything after that, except for maybe the covers album, has been embarassing. As for a live album, they pretty much just do a Greatest Hits set, so I can’t imagine that it will be too exciting. Unless Mutt’s going to produce a new studio album (hmm, maybe Rick Rubin?) these guys are not getting any more of my money.
Their post Hysteria albums have been a mixed bag but only X springs to mind as one to avoid. The others aren’t all that bad a Vivian Campbell can play. If you doubt this just listen to Dio’s Holy Diver and then you’ll know what I mean.
I just hope the gig they record this from is also recorded in blighty so I can get to see them again. They could possibly document it by filming it and releasing it on DVD/Blu-Ray too.
I hope they include some covers on the live album as Leppard are very good at ‘leppardizing’ the classics. I love their versions of ‘Little Wing’ and ‘Action’ whilst the live version of ‘Elected’ on the Hysteria Deluxe Edition is stonking.
In spite of what others think, I never get tired of hearing ‘Sugar’ done live!
