Deep Purple To Release Documentary On 1976 Split

Deep Purple are to release a documentary next year, chronicling the year leading up the band splitting up in 1976.

Titled Getting’ Tighter, the Blu-Ray/DVD will include new interviews with both Glenn Hughes and Jon Lord, plus previously unreleased footage of the MkIV line-up – also featuring David Coverdale, Tommy Bolin and Ian Paice – playing live.

This is to be released early next year. Watch a trailer here.

Really looking forward to this. Always had a soft spot for the MKIV line up and Tommy Bolin in particular. This line up certainly had an eventful year or so together. Drugs, murder, erratic performances with moments of genius, a great band imploding.

sounds good, hope it not gonna be the same as the ”family rock trees” programme.

A Purple DVD which doesn’t star RB! Seriously, this will be interesting stuff. I still think Last Concert in Japan is an exciting album. Wild Dogs is absolutely wonderful.

Question is, would Purple have lasted any longer with Mick Ronson, Clem Clempson, Rory Gallagher, etc.? We’ll never know.

So excited for this DVD!! Love the MKIII and MKIV stuff. It’s so..unique and under the radar in so many ways. Stormbringer Burn and Come Taste the Band..great run by a band changing personnel on the fly.. What a family tree too. Purple, Rainbow, Sabbath, Whitesnake, Dio. Amazing…

This is my ultimate Purple line up and my fave Purple album. Can’t wait for the remaster. Bolin and Hughes could of gone on to become megastars if it weren’t for the sad passing of Tommy BOlin in 76.
