Dan Reed To Play Whole Of New Album At London Show
Dan Reed is going to introduce a new international flavour – and sound – to fans when he plays the Union Chapel in London on March 5.
“It’ll be the first full band gig I’ve done over here in about 17 years, Reed told Classic Rock. “I have five musicians with me on stage, so we are really going to span the spectrum of my career to date.”
The musos in question are two Swedes (acoustic guitarist Tommy Denander and bassist Bengan Johansson), two Americans (electric guitarist Rob Daiker and keyboard player Brook Lizotte) and one Turk (drummer Robert Ikiz).
“We’re going to do a 90-minute set, and will play all the songs for the new album, Coming Up For Air. So we’ll be doing 19 or 20 songs in all.”
The record is to be released in May, and reflects the diversity of Reed’s musical influences these days.
“There’s some Middle Eastern moments, some Turkish music and, of course, there’s also the rock presence. To me, it’s more about the heart and the head than the groin.”
The London show is to be filmed for a live DVD, which should be available about the same time as the album. Both will be put out under the ‘Dan Reed’ name, not as Dan Reed Network.
“Well, we did think about resurrecting the Network. But it would mislead everyone, because it’s not what we’re about anymore. It would also be insulting to the musicians who were part of that band in the glory days.”
