Dagaband Founder Dies
Greg Boynton, the founder of and keyboard player with UK prog outfit Dagaband, has died suddenly.
Right now, nobody’s sure what the cause of his death was. An open verdict has been filed.
Hugely influenced by ELP, Chesterfield-based Dagaband started in the mid 70s but took a lengthy break after a road accident in 1976, which left them without any equipment. The trio re-formed four years later and toured incessantly before finally splitting up 1986. Ironically, after 24 years off the scene, Boynton was in the middle of putting the band back together.
Paying tribute, guitarist Nick May says:
“At the age of 61 Greg had all the energy and enthusiasm for the Dagaband as he would undoubtedly have had at the age of 21 (long before I met him) and work had already commenced on exchanging and sifting through ideas for a long-awaited Dagaband album. An album that had actually been started in 1986 and shelved for nearly two and a half decades – an album Greg had always dreamed about completing but which will now sadly never see the light of day.”
