CR AWARDS: Vintage Trouble
Come inside for an interview with the winners of the Best New Band category.
Best New Band (sponsored by Kraken)
Winners: Vintage Trouble
Did you know that you’d won the award?
Ty Taylor (vocals): No. We had an idea that a band from California was going to win here today, but not that it would be us.
So how does it feel to win something so prestigious?
It’s kinda freaky because we’ve only been together for a little over 18 months. We feel honoured to be in a room full of the people that inspired us to want to play music. But even better, the result was determined by the readers – the people that came to our shows in the United Kingdom.
With the likes of Rival Sons, Saint Jude and The Treatment also nominated, the competition was pretty fierce.
Yes it was. But the music we’re bringing is soul with a rock ‘n’ roll edge. Maybe what people felt was that we were something different to what they’d heard in quite a while. To some it will feel new, but it’s not really. We’re just amplifying some things from the past and giving them a modern twist. There’s been a lot of indie music these last ten years and suddenly this soul band comes along. We require people to feel vibrations in a different way.
How do Vintage Trouble push on from here?
Winning this award will definitely challenge any sort of comfort we might be feeling. It’s time to step things up.
And how will you do that?
We’ve a UK tor that starts [in Nottingham, at the Rescue Rooms] tomorrow. That takes us up till Christmas, and we pick things up again in January. We’re aware that people will be saying: ‘Oh, you guy won a Classic Rock award… what can you do?’ We’ll be doing our best to live up to that, every day.
