Cornell Defiant Over New Direction
Former Soundgarden and Audioslave front man Chris Cornell has been doing the rounds on US television, defending his latest opus, the much-maligned Scream.
Appearing on NBC-TV’s ‘Last Call With Carson Daly’, Cornell spoke of his satisfaction with the LP, stating that even the cover art was an “unapologetic symbol that ‘this is not a guitar album’”.
Cornell later defended his decision to work with hip-hop uber producer, Timberland, promising that the collaboration is “musically, not what it looks like on paper.”
Before closing the interview, Cornell also hinted that those how are brave enough to venture out and catch him whilst he is on tour could be in for treat, as he may play the album, in it’s entirety on certain occasions.
“I might decide at the last minute[before a show] just to play all of ‘Scream’ first.
“It’s one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done live.”

Oh and if he played the entire Scream, he wouldn’t have to hire any musicians, just a dj behind him would be enough. All the profit going straight to his pocket!
Poor guy. He was so perfect live, wonder what he’s gonna be up to now…
No sorry Chris, your new “direction” is a
shuddering embarresment..
Why don’t you take dance lessons from Jako, then you should be just about “ready” for your Nelly Furtado duet.
I’d give it a chance live. If you caught his appearances on The Tonight Show and Carson Daily there’s a couple things to note:
1) He’s using a full band to play the new songs. He’s not singing over a hip hop track and so the songs live are different than they are on the album.
2) He’s got the same band as his last tour, which is a very good sign. Awesome band!
Having seen him recently play an amazing gig at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire (possibly the best gig I’ve ever been to) I wouldn’t knocj it. Live it’s really good and made me want to go out and buy. His regular band play it , guitars n’all, and it was really good. On cd it has to be listened either thru headphones or a good sound set-up. Try it. Best tracks are Ground Zero, Climbing up the walls, Long Gone and Scream itself.
Live he was fucking amazing. We got early Soundgarden with Gun, later stuff like Pretty Noose and Like Suicide and of course Jesus Christ Pose, 2hrs 45 mins, 30 songs of pure Rock. What a guy.
