Classic Rock Hears...Hot Leg

Justin Hawkins may be about to star in a horror movie but Classic Rock’s Ian Fortnam has heard the debut album from his Hot Leg project.

Hot Leg – Red Light Fever
If anything Justin Hawkins has concentrated the flavour of his trademark Marmite ‘man’ rock for the debut album from his latest post-Darkness project, Hot Leg. Which is, of course, either very good or very bad news, depending on how you felt about the temporarilly Zeitgeist-hogging sound of Permission To Land.

Rather than temper the intricately-arranged post-Queen vocal falsettos, seventies-styled glam commerciality and quintessentially English, seaside postcard pun-drenched lyrics of The Darkness, he’s intensified the whole Justin experience, and the resultant album is as exquisitely opinion-splitting as one might expect.

Personal preferences aside though, Justin Hawkins is a master of the irresistible hook, and Red Light Fever is positively littered with them. Hot Leg undoubtedly rock, but they’re tempered with a pop dynamic that you’ll either love to hate or hate to love.

So, in other words, it’s the total shitpie we all know it will be?

4th division pub rock.

Good luck at the job centre Justin

NEXT!

Man, the darkness albums were good.
HOT LEG is not too good. Stone Godz are not great but are solid enough…

I love the Stone Gods, but the 3 tracks I’ve heard from Hot Leg has been decidedly average at best. Heroes is ok, but Trojan Guitar and I’ve Met Jesus are pure silliness. And I was/am a huge Darkness fan.

Did someone not tell Justin that even Queen failed in their attempt to write a rock song about Jesus?

Shame on you naysayers. Not a substantiated assassination among your comments. I happen to think Hot Leg are great entertainment live and produce fantastic, lifting, well-produced riff-based rock songs. Don’t allow some ’silly’ lyrics to convince you otherwise. Have any of you actually heard the album you are commenting on?

My advice is go and see the shows… JH is the outstanding rock frontman of his generation.. and is truly back on form! Go see Hot Leg now in the clubs before they go ballistic!!!

And the album will be great.. it is good that it splits opinion.. cos it means it is not middle of the road!

And Stone Gods are great too!!!

All i can say is “Prima Donna.” Possibly one of the most overlooked songs of this century. A pure beat-driven powerhouse with an incredible main riff. Love it, enjoyed the album. Long live the leg!
