Christine McVie working on new Mac music
Christine McVie has written songs for the next Fleetwood Mac record, and she’ll join the band for studio sessions starting in March, drummer Mick Fleetwood has confirmed.
McVie retired in 1998 but last year she made a guest appearance with the band in London, sparking the expectation that she wanted to return full time.
Fleetwood referred to the reunion as “the worst-kept secret there is” earlier this month. Now Fleetwood Mac News cites a report in the Maui News in which he says she’s written songs and will take part in the upcoming recording sessions, and also in the tour to follow.
In December McVie reflected on her reasons for retiring, saying: “I’d made my mind up that I’d done enough touring. I just couldn’t live out of a suitcase any more. Whereas now I would really rather like to again.”
She added that she’s been spurred on by discovering how many young people enjoyed Mac’s music, reporting: “I have friends with grandchildren in their teens and they’ve got Rumours, Tusk, all the live stuff, and they dig it, man, they really like it!”
Official confirmation has not yet appeared, but the band’s publicist tells Billboard: “Christine has indeed rejoined and we are hoping to make an announcement about a tour some time in 2014.”
