Bruce Dickinson: Maiden Play Glastonbury? Never!

Bruce Dickinson has revealed why Iron Maiden will never play at the Glastonbury Festival.

Talking to The Sun, the singer said: “Glastonbury is a bit too cream cakes and afternoon tea for us. It’s all yurts and people being far too polite.”

Dickinson also stated that the band don’t exactly go overboard on their backstage rider these days. In fact, it really is very basic.

“We got rid of most of our rider. We just have three loaves of white bread, some butter, a tin of tuna fish and some beers. People come backstage looking for the spread and we say: ‘Go make yourself a sandwich.’”

New album sucks Bruce and the new Eddie makes me cringe. Really maiden fans that grew up with the band must wonder what this new stuff is all about. Thank god for real rock bands like Motorhead,AC/DC and Saxon.

Bob, you have to realise that you grew up with Iron Maiden ,im guessing in the 1980’s so of course those songs and lp’s from then are going to be the ones you favour-they have changed but then im guessing your life has changed since you first became a fan. There a new generation of Maiden fans out there who are getting the same buzz similar to what you got upon opening say Piece Of Mind and at leat no-one can take them Lp’s off you.

Been following Maiden since 1979. The new album is great. Agree about the new Eddie Though.

really, people need to play this album constantly. It’s a grower.

I think the new Maiden CD is a MONSTER!

Striving ahead and making new music, new classics etc’

Bob stop living in the past.

I grew up with Maiden and love the new album. Nothing wrong with trying to tweak your sound every now and the and keep it fresh.

Maiden won’t play Glastonbury? All the more reason for going!!! Maiden make great music – Dickinson sucks big time.

It isn’t Eddie without Derek, but the new CD has some of the best songs they’ve written since ‘Seventh Son’.

I must respect the guys. I saw them in Sonisphere in Finland this summer. They almost only played songs post 2000. I respect that. They are not a nostalgia act. I am not sure about the new album though…

its a great album, but bruce is a gobshite of the highest order! maiden should play glastonbury, it would shake up the twats in the crowd and maybe get thousands more into the band. If motorhead were offered it they would do it!

Well, I’ve been a Maiden fan since 1989 and have always bought their albums. I think you need to try and appreciate the fact that they are still going and trying to produce an interesting CD each time. Plus they are not endlessy touring with no new product to promote. I thought “A Matter of Life and Death” was one of their best albums in years and the new one needs a few listens which can’t be a bad thing. At the end of the day you can always put “Number of the Beast” on afterwards! Considering they were on about scaling things down a few years ago, I think they are doing a fine job!

I grew up with Iron Maiden- I was 14 in 1982, and have seen them every tour since Powerslave inc the Blaze years-and I always look forward to a new Maiden album. Thats because they consistantly produce great music without constantly repeating themselves, so Bob, don’t know what your on about mate, the new album is brilliant stuff.
I buy everything from AC/DC but seriously, have they done a really decent album since For Those About to Rock?
As far as i’m concerned Iron Maiden can do no wrong- well apart from the fact they need to do a full UK tour for a change!!

I’m loving the new album too. Bob you should let the sound expand it’s a real progression. I agree with the Eddie comment though. I miss the ugly Git’s mush now he’s been turned into a baby Preadator.

Bring back the Bolt faced laser eyed zombie we love!

thought this about not playing Glastonbury lol i for one glad they would not ,as for new album it ok ,you play it lot for it grow on u and i dont like new eddie

C´MON NOBODY IN ROCK HISTORY CAN CREATE SUCH A GREAT ALBUM AFTER 30 YEARS OF CAREER. AND ABSOLUTELY NOBODY HAS THE BALLS TO PLAY THE WHOLE NEW ALBUM LIVE. IRON MAIDEN CAN´T BE FOUGHT. LONG LIVE EDDIE AND THE BOYS.

Kriss Lane

I’m still unsure about the new album but I’m going to plug away at it. If it still hasn’t grabbed me after a bunch of listens then so be it.
As for the new Eddie, I read an interview with the artist & he said it’s not Eddie on the cover but he will be making an appearance again soon. Whatever that means.

Haven’t bought a Maiden album since “Killers”. After hearing this one on Planet Rock last weekend went out and got this one straight away! Awesome album.

Only really liked 3/4 songs on each of maidens albums and I can only listen to a few of the albums from start to finish. This is one of them.

might it be because you’ve not been asked to play lads?

Let’s be honest…it would be nice to see Maiden anywhere in Britain! Instead of just the occasional 1-offs that we’ve had on the last few tours! What’s the deal? They did more gigs in Norway on the last tour than the UK!

To Andy, AC/DC have released a good album since FTATR..Black Ice. Maiden’s last good album IMO was 7th Son. This new cd, ridiculously named after Star Trek, is a complete & utter prog influenced snooze fest!!! They lost it decades ago. And i cant believe they had the nerve to sack Derek Riggs, he should sue them for rights to Eddie. Oh & AC/DC still rock AND they still play their classic songs live unlike Maiden who force their fans to listen to the new shit like it or not. And why wont they do an arena tour like AC/DC? Why do they expect fans to travel to festivals to see them? Maiden do arena tours for the American fans, so why treat us different?

Bruce Bruce

The new album is great and so are backstage Maiden-sandwiches I’m sure!

Arctangent

of course maiden will never be asked to play glastonbury as those nasty eavis family don’t like heavy metal at their festival. might scare the cows!

BlakNo1

“Maiden do arena tours for the American fans”

I live in Boston, MA, USA and I would’ve had to travel 4 hours to see them since the closest they came this time is New York City so that’s not always the case at all.

Then again, I’ve seen them 5 times dating back to World Slavery Tour so I’m not that upset… : )

trevoreo

The Final Frontier is a masterpiece, I think that if you don’t enjoy listening to it then you don’t really get what Maiden are all about.
I saw them at Sonisphere and was really excited about the setlist being from 2000 onwards.
I love Run To The Hills but I’m glad they didn’t play it as it’s a ‘best metal anthems ever cd’ type of song and there are so many more equally good or better songs they can play.
What more do people want from them?!
This is Iron Maiden we are talking about-best metal band ever!

Beerdevil

Final Frontier is a decent album, in my opinion. I found it easier to listen to than ‘A matter of life and death’. I’m not fond of the Blaze Bailey era albums to be honest. As for Glastonbury, that would be interesting! After some s**t like Akon, Iron Maiden?? Random!

KissFan1

If all of you wouls quit whining about eddie and look at the pics on the inside you will see edie sitting with the “predator” and you will notice that on the cover is thier offspring. up the irons!!!

mutters

good on yer brucie! if maiden played glasto it would be a huge cop out. lets face it glasto sucks, i can’t abide “these places to be seen coz i’m cool”. jeezus, look at reading fest , that used to brill til it got ‘took over by the corporate mafia that ……oh bugger !! i’ve started to rant now….

everyone stop giving bob a hard time i also grew up with maiden & i don’t like the new album nor the new eddie that don’t mean my self or bob are wrong or live in the past it’s just about what works for you and what don’t, not every maiden album was great,
up the irons !!!!!

The new album is fabulous. No other band thats been around as long as Maiden could come up with anything half as good.Fuck glastonbury, its full of ok yaa trendy twats who know fuck all about the bands they are watching.

Ian Sane

I’ve been a fan of Maiden since 1984 and I think TFF is great. All four of studio sets recorded as a six piece are solid. I for one, am quite happy enjoying the musical journey the band continues to take us on…
