Bonus Track Of The Day: Mastedon

Not to be confused with the Atlanta rhythmic mob (that’s Mastodon), Mastedon is the brainchild of former Kansas frontman John Elefante, so you’ll know the style to expect on today’s Track Of The Day. Click here for previous Tracks Of The Day.

The band’s story actually goes back to the mid 1980s when he formed the band with his brother Dino. Two albums followed, namely 1989’s It’s A Jungle Out There and Lofcaudio a year later. Both charted highly in the Christian rock world – and yes, the brothers are committed Christians.

At this point, John decided to put the band on hold and go after a solo career, with some success. However, he’s now decided to resurrect the band, and pulled in some more than decent pals to help out on new album 3.

There’s Kerry Livgren, Elefante’s one-time Kansas bandmate and fellow Christian, on guitar, plus Dave Amato (REO Speedwagon), also on guitar. There’s Whiteheart bassist Anthony Sallee, plus veteran drummer Dan Needham, who’s played with a host of big names from Garth Brooks to Michael McDonald. Add Dino Elefante on guitar and backing vocals, and you have one helluva band – or should we say it’s a heaven-sent record?
