Tico Torres in emergency surgery
Bon Jovi have been forced to cancel a series of shows in South America after drummer Tico Torres had to undergo emergency appendix surgery.
The 59-year-old was rushed to hospital yesterday in Mexico City – but he tried to persuade doctors to let him play that night’s show before they operated.
Frontman Jon Bon Jovi says in a statement: “It was his desire to perform. He even promise he would come back for surgery right after the show, but the doctors prevailed.
“Tico sends his thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. We’ll remain with him and will see him through his release.”
The band have apologised to fans and vowed to reschedule as many dates as possible.
Meanwhile, estranged guitarist Richie Sambora has tweeted: “All my love, prayers and heart goes out to my brother Tico. He’s an amazing man, a true warrior, great artist and underestimated musician.”
There’s still no word on if or when Sambora might return to Bon Jovi, after leaving their world tour in April at short notice, apparently because of a disagreement with the frontman. Rumours that he’s been permanently sacked have not been confirmed, while the guitarist’s most recent comments suggested he was expecting to be back in the fold by some time this month.
