Anybody know what became of Guthrie Govan? Shame that GPS was knocked on the head, but I guess just having the name Asia on a record or ticket gets a few more sales? The again not that many more judging by the thin attendances at some of the Asia gigs I saw before the original 4 re-united!

gps is still on the go with guthrie. the asia line up is based in america while guthrie lives in the uk and they will do a new album at some point.

John Payne became the frontman of the supergroup ASIA in 1992 at the invitation of keyboardist Geoff Downes, replacing vocalist/bassist John Wetton.

ASIA extensively toured the world for the next 14 years performing new classics and old favorites. With John Payne fronting the band, ASIA released 8 stunning studio albums and several live recordings. In 2006, Geoff Downes left the band to reform the 1982 line up for their 25th anniversary.

On the 9th of May 2006, John Payne, Geoff Downes, John Wetton, Carl Palmer and Steve Howe contractually agreed that John Payne would continue his 14 year legacy with ASIA as “ASIA Featuring John Payne”. ASIA Featuring John Payne have been touring in North America since 2008 and a new studio album is underway and planned for release in 2010.

GPS are still active and a new album is planned for fall 2010. Last word was that Guthrie would still be involved with GPS.

Have to say that I thought the Asia tag might be something of a millstone to John and that it might be better to start afresh even if he continued to play Asia material live (incidentally, I rate Aura as Asia’s second best album – it’s a belter!). Still, best of luck to him!

He sang on albums that never even broke the top 125. GO AWAY. Once upon a time,Geoff Downes made a terrible mistake ( caused by a tempoary coke problem, which led to money problems). Inturn, this led to Downes selling Payne a share in ASIA out of desperation. When the fog in Downes head finally cleared and the original “band” Reunited, the “band” had a big legal problem. Wetton offered PAIN a payoff to get rid of him, but the turd wanted more. And now we have to put up with this sh!+. PLEASE GO AWAY. This is actually getting imbarassing!!!

Tyler, while I agree about the legitimacy of PAYNE using the brand-name of ASIA, which is simply riding the coat-tails of the original lineup. When you say, this is actually getting “imbarassing” makes you look foolish. For one thing, your spelling! Secondly, this was embarassing a LONG, LONG time ago and nothing to do with original ASIA.
