Anvil Cruelly Snubbed By Oscars
Anvil can put away those Oscar acceptance speeches, because they won’t be going to the awards next year.
There was a genuine expectation that the acclaimed documentary Anvil! The Story Of Anvil would make the shortlist for the Best Documentary award at arguably the second most prestigious awards ceremony in entertainment (behind the Classic Rock Awards, naturally). But when the 15 contenders were announced today – no Anvil.
Shame really. We’d have looked forward to seeing Lips or Robb Reiner sharing cocktails and discussing Metal On Metal with Jack Nicholson!
Still, at least Anvil’s movie recieved an award at the recent Classic Rock Roll Of Honour.
That’s ok, boys. The Oscars are for wankers and weasels anyway. Best to not even be associated with such rubbish.
I can’t remember having ever seen a documentary so emotionally engaging, not to mention satisfying to watch all the way to the end. Who knows whose hand you forgot to shake…
Damn…These guys have been making QUALITY music for YEARS… Forged In Fire, Metal On Metal… Great albums… Geez, these guys deserve to make it big time… At least people get to see the story… Over 20 years making music, that’s a legacy right there… Anvil IS the definition of blood, sweat and tears for heavy metal…
This is BS that such an awesome documentary was overlooked by the arseholes at the “academy” nomination board

next year some BS r&b or rap “star” will make a documentary that will be crap and it’ll get a nomination in a flash

I saw Anvil at Toronto’s Massey Hall supporting Iron Maidens Number of the Beast tour. Anvil rocked as hard as Maiden, sadly that was my only exposure until this documentary. These guys deserve a lifetime achievement award, they kept going while most bands like this would have ended up in jail, rehab or graves. Great documentary of really deserving guys!
Well who cares really, the fact they are still going, and don’t really need any award, is testiment to their greatness. Its mostly down to the fact that Anvil aren’t a manufactured, Commercial piece of shit, which is why they didn’t consider them. Well, let’s hope we can make their next album go into the top 40 atleast, so they can get some recognition.
