Andrew Stockdale: ‘I Am Wolfmother’
Wolfmother is now very much the vehicle for mainman Andrew Stockdale.
Talking to Classic Rock, the guitarist/vocalist revealed:
“I suppose it is all about my vision and what I wanna do. I wrote all the songs for our current album, Cosmic Egg, and I really would find it weird right now to co-write with anyone else in the band.”
Stockdale was also a little less than committed when it came to whether or not the current Wolfmother line-up – also featuring guitarist Aidan Nemeth, bassist/keyboard player Ian Peres and drummer Dave Atkins – had a long-term future.
“I want to keep a drums, bass, guitar thing going. But I’m also not ruling out bringing in other instruments. So, if I feel a pedal guitar would sound great on a song, then I will think about expanding what we have.”
And Stockdale is keen to build on the considerable global success of Cosmic Egg by making a new record again before the end of the year.
“I felt under a lot of pressure for the current album, because of everything that was going on with the band, all the changes we had. Now, with things being more relaxed I really wanna get stuck into a third album in 2010.”
Before that, Wolfmother will be on the main stage for Hard Rock Calling at London’s Hyde Park.
The event happens from June 25-27, and Wolfmother will be playing just below Pearl Jam on the first night.
“That’s such a massive thing for us. Especially playing with Pearl Jam. They’re a band I really admire, because they do things in their own way at their own pace. It’s something I wanna do with Wolfmother. To have that sort of freedom is a musician’s dream!”
Finally, Stockdale strongly recommends Classic Rock readers check out a band from Perth, Australia called Tame Impala.
“They’re very psychedelic, in a Beatles and Cream way. But not just a throwback. They write really good songs.”
