Aerosmith’s Hamilton drops off tour
Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton has dropped off the band’s current Australian tour after contracting a chest infection.
The band have brought in Dirty Angels’ David Hull in his place once again. It’s thought he’ll appear at their two remaining shows, in Brisbane tomorrow and Melbourne on May 4.
Aerosmith are due to appear in Manila, the Phiippines on May 8 and Jakarta, Indonesia, three days later, after which they’ll take a two-month break. It’s not known whether Hamilton will play those shows.
Hull, who plays in guitarist Joe Perry’s solo band, previously stood in during Aerosmith’s 2006 tour while Hamilton recovered from throat cancer, and again in 2009.
Last year Hamilton confirmed he was cancer-free, saying: “I’m feeling really good. The doctor who treated me in 2009 said, ‘Listen, I can help you in a way that is going to preserve your way of life.’ I go in there about every two to three months.
“I get looked at by having the doctor put a scope down my throat. It’s a nerve-wracking process, but I don’t have to worry about it for a couple of months and I’m feeling great.”
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler last week discussed his appearance in upcoming animated movie Epic.
