Aerosmith bassist’s rude toy trouble
Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton’s rude sense of humour got him into trouble after he came up with an idea for obscene Beanie Babies.
He had 8000 plush toys made – but the joke fell apart at the seams when his son took a few to school.
Hamilton tells Legendary Rock Interviews: “There’s something I’d had for a long time, from the era of the Beanie Babies, called Obscenies. They’re like the equivalent to Beanie Babies except they’re dirty.
“I have a character named Scrotilla The Hun who is a rampaging dick, and a character named Robin Redbreasts who has breast implants.
“I would tell people about it and they’d be like, ‘Well, when are you going to do it?’ So I found somebody who had the connections to have plush toys made. There was some factory in China that was able to produce about 8000 of these things.
“My son got into the box of them and took some to school and got in trouble… and then I got in trouble!”
Hamilton – who recently missed some Aerosmith shows over a health issue – admits it’s a departure from the hot sauces, wine and coffee ventures other musicians get involved with.
“I love a good punchline, but that’s doesn’t mean it’s going to be a commercial success,” says the bassist. “They’re pretty hilarious but I’ve never been able to fin anybody who could figure out how to sell them.
“Maybe people will hear about it and sort of latch on to it. I think I’m just going to take them out on the road and throw them out to people when I’m onstage.”
Aerosmith have just released live DVD Rock For The Rising Sun, recorded during their trip to Japan in 2011, which singer Steven Tyler recently said was the saving of the band.
