AC/DC Grab No.1 Spot With Iron Man Album
AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 soundtrack album has raced to the top of the UK charts, beating the brand new release by Paul Weller into second place. But who’s buying it? (The AC/DC album, that is.)
It’s a remarkable achievement by AC/DC as Iron Man 2 features no new songs, just 15 oldies from their back catalogue – including both the Brian Johnson and Bon Scott eras of the band.
The nearest to an AC/DC rarity on the album is the Powerage out-take Cold Hearted Man, later released on the Backtracks set.
We’d be interested to know: did you, as a Classic Rock type, purchase the album – even though you’ve likely heard all the songs before?
Or is it just something people are filling up their trolleys with at Tesco?
Equally as amazing, it looks like this album could debut at the top of the US charts this week.
Weller’s new album, Wake Up The Nation, is his 10th studio album and features his first collaboration since 1982 with ex-Jam member Bruce Foxton. The Modfather must be gutted to be languishing at No.2.
In other chart news, Meat Loaf’s latest, Hang Cool Teddy Bear, debuted at no. 4.

loads of people are just discovering ac/dc tho I reckon a lot of the hard core fans will buy it for the collection. The weller album is pretty good too! I will pick em both up when they are in the cheap bins!
I don’t know who is buying it but I DO KNOW that finally REAL ROCK(AOR-Hard rock-Prog) is taking the place of numetal-grunge-punk-emo and assorted loser’s crap!
After 2 decades of boring,unmelodic,unskilled,depressed,untalented absolute SHIT it’s the time to return to the REAL THING!
I work part-time at Tesco, whilst at college and I have seen no one buy it! All I see is the crap that middle age women buy. Surely any AC/DC fan already has their back catalogue..
@marco have to disagree with you on the grunge side of things, but for the rest I’d agree with you
Marco, the charts might be improving, but who needs them anyway? Beneath the surface, rock’s never gone away. Don’t tell me you’ve missed all the golden gems of the 90s and 00s just because they weren’t big enough to make magazine covers!
Bands like Skin, Thunder, Vooodoo Six, Heaven’s Basement, Get Vegas and Viking Skull are out there kicking ass, while old veterans like Sebastian Bach are touring venues far smaller than they should be.
Get out there!
I bought it, mainly for completeness and to have in the car. They don’t tend to continually repackage their back catalog with one ‘best of’ after another, like Aerosmith or Maiden, and ACDC Live is about as close to Greatest Hits package as you can get.
I don’t care so much for music charts. But at least it’s good to see real music topping the charts…and no disrespect to Paul Weller.
For those about to rock, we salute you!!! \m/
brilliant compilation
AC/DC Thay never had best of….or greatest hits thing, this is as close as you can get. Don`t forget AC/DC is THE BEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD.
I bought at ones……
@Ryan
Grunge and especially nirvana have destroyed REAL ROCK with their mixture of primitive easy 2 chords unmelodic crap in the early 90’s.
Anyway AIC,the first album of Pearl jam and Soundgarden were not that bad.
@Richard Warrell
I don’t think we had good rock music over the past 2 decades but we are having NOW definitely.
Bands like WORK OF ART-W.E.T.-H.E.A.T.-AURAS-CRASHDIET-CRAZY LIXX and countless others are at the same level of the past greats and in some cases they are even better.
Even though I have the back catalogue I bought this for my collection anyway!!
I bought it! mainly for the bonus dvd tho
Weller’s new album is amazing too, even the remixes on cd2 are decent!
nice to have decent stuff up in the charts instead of the usual Tinie this Tinchy that ringtone drivel
Marco, Punk-Emo-other crap I’ll give you. I was 14 when Numetal was big so I was the right age but I admit it wasn’t great … but grunge? How can you not like grungle. Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden – 3 great rock bands. Hell, I’ll put PJ and AiC up there with the greatest of all time. If you’ve been ignoring Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains because you thought grunge was some sort of crap kids were listening to in the 90’s because they didn’t understand proper rock you’ve been missing out mate.
it;s the SAME ALBUM album with a new cover!!…i mean ….buy back in black…ac/dc have the best record company COLUMBIA!!!..by the way in US the album will open at # 4 !!!!!!…and NO AC/DC ARE NOT THE BEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD!!!
….AC/DC WERE COOL IN THE EARLY ‘80S WHEN I WAS 10 YEARS OLD! BACK IN BLACK IS EVERYTHING! ALL THEIR REST ALBUMS ARE THE SAME. TODAY AC/DC IS SO MUCH MARKETING………..AND SO B O R I N G!!!!!
It’s a great playlist but I already had all the songs!
This is their loop-hole to their “we only release albums” thing. Sure, it’s not technically a greatest hits, but let’s cut the shit here: it’s re-packaging of back catalogue, which is essentially greatest hits, because that’s what will sell.
So now Metallica look to be the last hold outs on the greatest hits compilation…
Just made the album myself using all the albums.
They could have at least added 1 or 2 new songs.
I had a look at their revenue for 2009 split into album sales, merch and ticket sales.
I’d not call this selling out since it’s gonna be less than 0.5% of the money they make in 2010.
Firstly, Weller’s album is indeed excellent, best thing he’s done since Heavy Soul.
Secondly, for Richard, I’m afraid that the potentially stunning GET VEGAS imploded last year, on the day we were due to see them in Glasgow. Arse. Double arse. With a side order of arse.
Twelvethly, Marco, how deep have you dug to find new bands? No good music for twenty years? Sorry my friend but that is just so wrong. There are dozens of great bands on the go now, and there have been even more in the last 20 years once you include the bands that folded, such as 22/20s and Green Dollar Colour. Surely you musta found something on the free cds that this mag gives out, it’s where we discover a lot of the great new music that’s out there?

@Saiid
I said AIC ,Soundgarden and the first album of PJ was good but the movement of grunge as a whole were made by unskilled clowns unable to play and,above all,TO SING!!!! (i.e. kurt cobain)
@Lee
The past 2 decades have been the decades of the depressed loser,rock music has de-evolute into the abyss of boring primitive 2 chords- no solos- grunt of the pig vocals.
Of course some good bands were born over this period but nothing comparable to the past greats.
Nowaday we are witenssing the return of melody,harmony,solos etc….in a word the return of REAL music.
OK I don’t quite agree that there have been NO decent new bands in the last 20 years (although to be fair Marco does mention a whole crop of current bands so the guy is obviously looking!). But I have to say I couldn’t agree more with his overall comments. Post grunge NEW rock music has been pretty dire – I wish I could find something new that excites me (ooh err) but MOST (not quite all) of the new bands I like are those like The Answer who are plugging straight into a more traditional, or classic, rock sound. Most of the new music that has interested me hasn’t been rock at all. Furthermore I would say that for post grunge rock, I now tend to like individual tracks rather than whole albums, as has always been the case previously. I wish it wasn’t so, but it is.
I have to also agree with Mr Warrell – the old classic bands have never gone away and now they are coming back into vogue again and reaping the benefit. Hence the reason I couldn’t get a sodding ticket for AC/DC on the Black Ice tour!!!!!!!!
@ Marco supporters club ….:-)
I agree with you (of course!!!)
But nowadays we are starting to see the birth of real good NEW bands.
There are good new young prog bands like Diagonal and Astra…new great AOR bands like Work of Art and H.e.a.t….new hard rock bands like Crashdiet and Crazy Lixx..so times are a changing again but for the better this time!
Let’s celebrate
Although I think ACDC are an excellent rock band I don’t own an album, I will however adding this one to my collection as it is a good compilation.
I def think times are changing and although there has been the odd good rock band out there over the years things are just not what they were, the idea of rock with people these days is if its loud and some one is screaming it must be rock, but its just not music …..you just cannot beat classic rock in my opinion
