AC/DC To Headline 2010 Download Festival
Other bands on the bill to include Them Crooked Vultures, Stone Temple Pilots, Deftones, Megadeth and Motörhead. Come inside for ticket details.
Download festival organisers have today confirmed that AC/DC will be one of the headliners for this year’s festival, taking place at Donington Park 11-13 June.
AC/DC will be appearing at Donington for the fourth time. They first appeared at the second Monsters Of Rock concert in 1981, and then in 1984 and 1991. The year 2010 will mark three decades of AC/DC at Donington Park – and their debut performance at Download.
The festival’s arena capacity will be increased to help satisfy demand for tickets – and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Monsters Of Rock. Last year’s event sold out at 85,000 per day. The increased arena size this year will make Download the biggest UK music festival after Glastonbury.
Andy Copping, Download festival promoter, commented:
“Download 2010 will be one for the history books. It will see the return of the world’s greatest rock band to the most legendary and spiritual home of rock.
“We have been pushing for this moment for many years, but for this to become reality alongside the likes of Them Crooked Vultures, Motörhead and Megadeth is the best 30th anniversary of the site we could have dreamed of.
“It’s also going to be a fantastic tribute to [late concert promoter] Maurice Jones who started this all off back in 1980.”
Further additions to the bill include Bullet For My Valentine, Wolfmother and Volbeat.

…And I thought it was supposed to be “earth shattering” news? Meh – Sonisphere is looking soooooooo much better already!! Still, I’m going to both AND High Voltage so why do I give a toss anyway?!!
Great news AC/DC are true legends and i cant wait.
Mr Tony Martin…stop showing off.. some of us are not f**king millionaires..
Quite right my shotgun toting farming friend! Download is looking decidedly dull quite frankly. But then im only saying this because I thought ACDC were decidedly dull at one of their summer stadium gigs.
TCV and Megadeth the best things on the announcement. Not really worth me parting with nearly 200 sheets though.
And i was soo looking forward to some sort of Van Halen announcement…….
Nme said about a week ago that AC/DC and….. Vanh Halen were both playing Download.
half way through then
this really annoys me. i was at donington for maiden in 88 and am am a massive ac/dc fan but i only want to see them, why should i pay £145 for a three day ticket when i only want to see dc and motorhead, day tickets should be avaliable from the start. copping knows it will sell out straight away and is ripping people off by not releasing tickets for all three days, or individual days from the off. i’ve got a young family and will not be paying for a three day event just to go on the friday, no doubt people will pay it anyway
Although it wasn’t a massive surprise, it’s nice to have official confirmation. Download have wanted AC/DC for years and personally it’s a dream come true – ever since wearing my old Live At Donnington Video out years ago I’ve longed to see the ‘DC play there again. The big question now is who else will play. Personally I’m hoping for some more classic bands – if I had a choice it would be the reformed Van Halen but I’m guessing this is unlikely….
OMG I CAN’T WAIT!!!! It is going to be amazing, megadeth, motorhead and AC/DC its worth £160 just for them three.
and for those moaning about the price, you get 120+ bands for £180 quid that works out at about £1 something per band.
Looks ok this year, I really want to see AC/DC but there’s no way I’d pay £145 to see them unless they played at my house. More Download info here http://bit.ly/5FYQze
Back In Black in full? Its been 30 years.
Hardly breaking news with AC/DC this has been a near confirmed rumour for months. It is a great headliner but in a nod to the first MoR which I attended why not have on the main stage Sunday at least Saxon,Scorpions and Judas Priest. Maybe Ritchie should be offered mega money to one more Rainbow gig.
They really need to announce all three headliners to get everyone excited.
AC/DC are the only ‘big’ name announced for Download unfortunately. The rest of the announced bands are second stage type bands really, which is a worry. Sonisphere is definitely looking loads better.
Saw AC/DC 4 times last year and will be certainly be seeing them again this year at Download. Not a big fan of megadeth, but Motorhead and Wolfmother should be good. Saw Wolfmother recently in Manchester and they rocked.
so acdc follow in maidens footsteps lets play one big show and force loyal fans to pay 145 quid to listen to second rate bands and watch a video screen. thanks guys nice to know the british fans mean so much to you
What the hell are you people complaining about? Since when have Motorhead and Megadeth become second rate bands? Them Crooked Vultures are not exactly beginners in the rock scene either and Wolfmother can rock anyone’s balls off. For those complaining that they only want to see AC/DC, why not just wait for the day tickets to go on sale? As for the format of the gig, this is how festivals work. For those who don’t like festivals, too bad but you just can’t see a single band. Festivals are great to see bands who you wouldn’t part with your money for otherwise and for people who can only afford one big gig/music event per year (especially those who have to travel to do so) and maximising the amount of bands one gets to see.
Hey dd09, they toured Britain in 08/09 didn’t they?
Stop your whining, AC/DC don’t owe you anything. You may have given them your money over the years but they’ve given you their music.
No one owes anyone anything.
I think Copping should sell individual 1 day tickets I have a family of 4 that want to see AC/DC as we were unfortunate not to get a ticket for the 4 shows they did last year, Im not fortunate to earn big bucks and Im sure not taking a loan out at 145 a ticket. AC/DC should do a few xtra shows at various locations in the Summer.
Last year only sold out AFTER day tickets were released. Of course priority should be given to customers (as that is what they are) that want to buy a ticket for all three days, but with an extra 20000 tickets per day available this year anyway, day tickets will almost certainly be available, so I’m really not sure why so many people are bitching about being ‘ripped off’.
IS THERE A CD TO FOLLOW THE MONSTERS OF ROCK CONCERT OF 2010 WUD LOVE TO BUY ONE IF THERE IS THANKS!!!!!!!!
