Watch three exclusive acoustic performances by The Virginmarys
Macclesfield trio The Virginmarys have just released their debut album King Of Conflict via the Doublecross label – and it’s a corker.
Receiving an 8/10 review in the latest issue of Classic Rock, we called it “a class record… the sound of a band who’ve played venues great and crap, grafted their way up the scale and created a thoroughly well-oiled music-making machine… As the no-nonsense rock’n'roll pulse of opener Dead Man’s Shoes sprawls into a grungy chorus brawl, you know you’re on to something good.”
The band recently popped into the Classic Rock office to play three acoustic tracks: Lost Weekend (described in our album review as “a Biffy-meets-Mudhoney ‘grunge power ballad’ – teenage heartbreak in pretty melodies, guttural, worldly anguish in Ally Dickaty’s vocals”), Just A Ride (“there’s arguably a hint of Arctic Monkeys and the like in its audibly Northern wordsmithery”) and Bang Bang Bang (“sure to incite fist-pumping and hell-yeahs”).
Check out The Virginmarys’ acoustic interpretations of the three tracks below.
