Elephant is the first single off Lonerism, the new album from Australian psych-rockers Tame Impala.
Track: Tame Impala – Elephant
File under: like Pink Floyd (or Norman Greenbaum) playing 70s glitter rock under the watchful eye of Liquid Len’s Lensmen
Dunno about you, but this video reminds us of the opening sequence to an early episode of Dr Who. (In fact, parts of the song itself also remind us of the Dr Who theme tune. Or maybe Norman Greenbaum’s Spirit In The Sky, we dunno.)
Or then again, possibly the clip recalls the telltale moment on the Old Grey Whistle Test when the programme’s producer used to press his one-and-only special FX button (you know, the one marked ‘swirly Spirograph acid-trip effect’) during a Steve Hillage guitar solo.
Whatever. Tame Impala are set to tour to the UK in late October and early November. The shows begin at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on October 30, before moving on to Manchester’s HMV Ritz on November 1, Sheffield Leadmill on November 2 and finally Glasgow ABC on November 3
The band’s new album, Lonerism, is out on October 8 in the UK.
