Top 30 Videos Of 2012: Nos. 30-26
Here’s the first part of our Top 30 Videos Of 2012. Featuring Flash Bastard, Cherri Bomb, Siva Addiction, Michael Des Barres, Kobra And The Lotus…
Note: The Top 30 was compiled by Geoff Barton, who comments: “When the Classic Rock website was relaunched this past May, we made a conscious effort to crank up the music content and regularly post the best new rock videos around. This end-of-year list is comprised of clips that made the greatest impression on me, personally, during 2012. Some are big-budget affairs; others may have been filmed on a shoestring. Some feature major bands; others focus on relatively unknown artists. But all, in their own ways, are vicarious visual treats. It goes without saying that the music is damn fine in each of ‘em too. Be sure to visit the Classic Rock website tomorrow (December 27) for part two of our Top 30 rundown!”
30. Flash Bastard – Rock’N'Roll Must Be Destroyed
Y’know what we said about videos being filmed on a shoestring? Well, take a gander at this little beauty. In fact, Flash Bastard’s shoestring budget is so minimal, we’re tempted to compare it to a cheap carpet slipper purchased at Poundland (ie. no shoestring at all). Regardless, prepare yourself for a lipstick thriller with hints of the Pistols, the Dolls and Sweet, along with the occasional pinch of Rocky Horror fun.
29. Cherri Bomb – Spin
When an all-girl band describe themselves as “total assault teen rock machines”, there really is only one thing to do… watch their damn video and find out if that enticing description holds water or not. So, what do we reckon, then? Well, we’d say Cherri Bomb are like The Bangles… but with extra added BANG! Check out Spin for yourself.
28. Siva Addiction – One Night Rodeo
Siva Addiction are American rockers outta Oklahoma City and we’ve been listening to them a lot lately. They’ve been compared to bands such as Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Mudvayne and Evanescence. We haven’t quite made up our minds ourselves… but that’s probably because we’re having awful trouble tearing our eyes away from singer Bridgette Oliver’s Biff Byford-style silver trousers…
27. Michael Des Barres – You’re My Painkiller
One word: cheekbones. A single look at this vid and Des Barres’ angular visage will haunt you forever. In a good way.
26. Kobra And The Lotus – Forever One
This, in our humble view, is one of the topmost pure heavy metal videos of 2012. In the best possible hair-flailing, teeth-baring, snarling-aggressively-while-standing-in-the-window-of-a-ruined-castle sense.
Coming tomorrow: Nos. 25-21 featuring Gypsyhawk, Biffy Clyro, Pure Love, Sex Slaves and American Dog!
