Music: Stunning new song from Katatonia

Men of (dead) letters: Katatonia

Katatonia, Sweden’s ultimate purveyors of dark rock/metal, have announced dates for an extensive European tour to support their forthcoming ninth album Dead End Kings. They’re also offering a free download of their spiffing new song Dead Letters.

Track: Katatonia – Dead Letters

File under: heavy, progressive and dead good – a surprisingly accessible offering from these brooding and intense Scandi types

Katatonia’s new album Dead End Kings goes on sale August 27 via Peaceville Records.

Lead guitarist Anders Nyström comments about the band’s gigs at the tail-end of the year: “We are very much looking forward to a tour that definitely stands out from the rest. Stare into November’s darkness with us! Be with us at the side of December’s deathbed! Come meet us at the chosen dead ends of Europe…”

Cheerful chap, ain’t he? The UK/Irish leg of the tour is as follows:

10/12/12 – London, Islington Academy
11/12/12 – Manchester, Academy 3
12/12/12 – Glasgow, Cathouse
13/12/12 – Belfast, The Limelight
14/12/12 – Dublin, Button Factory
15/12/12 – Limerick, Dolan’s Warehouse
17/12/12 – Newcastle, Academy 2
18/12/12 – Nottingham, Rescue Rooms
19/12/12 – Southampton, Talking Heads
20/12/12 – Bristol, Fleece

Support comes from France’s Alcest and Boston’s Junius – terrific bands, both. Be sure to visit the Classic Rock website tomorrow (Sunday, July 15) when we’ll be posting up tracks from them for you to listen to.
