Music: Redd Kross’ Kiss-like komeback

Red Kross: great song, disappointing tongue

Redd Kross are back and delivering their signature brand of eccentric power-pop-tinged rock’n'roll with a vengeance.

Track: Redd Kross – Stay Away From Downtown

File under: Kiss, or possibly Immortal, put on the facepaint (rather messily) and go power-pop

Founded 34 years ago in Los Angeles during the first wave of LA punk rock by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald (then respectively 15 and 11 years old), Redd Kross cut their teeth opening for Black Flag at a middle school graduation party.

A glittering career followed, the highlight of which was the release in 1987 of Neurotica, an album reportedly influenced by Saturday morning cartoons and breakfast cereal (one of the songs was called Frosted Flake).

Researching The Blues is Red Kross’ highly anticipated new record. It is their first new album in 15 years and has just been released on via Sweet Nothing/Cargo. Check out a track from it below.
