Music: Nightmare Air’s breakout track

Dream machine: Nightmare Air

Los Angeles-based Nightmare Air are quite possibly redefining the concept of the ‘rock power trio’. See if you agree by listening to (and checking out the video for) their track Escape.

Track: Nightmare Air – Escape

File under: what might happen if Kate Bush (or possibly Susannah Hoffs) joined Budgie… or something like that

Nightmare Air are fronted by the dynamic duo of Dave Dupuis (guitar, vocals) and Swaan Miller (bass, vocals).

Dupuis is a veteran of LA shoegazers Film School, while Miller’s stark early-2000s acoustic album on Important Records is something of a minor classic we reckon. By the way, we also dig Live Free Or Die, the cult album Miller recorded with Asa Irons (guitarist for the J. Mascis-led Witch).

…But back to Nightmare Air. The pair layer boy-girl harmonies (Miller’s dreamy vocal style being at odds with the band’s name), psych noise loops, fuzz-ripped bass and howling rock power to create something that sounds pretty damn unique to us.

The band’s line-up is completed by Detroit-raised heavy hitter Jimmy Lucido on drums.

Nightmare Air have just completed their debut studio full-length, which was mixed by Dave Schiffman (Nine Inch Nails, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Mars Volta) with mastering by Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, Sonic Youth, The White Stripes).

The record is still untitled and as-yet-unreleased, but you can grab a taster from it by checking out Escape below.
