Music: Iron Tongue – Lioness
Southern rock collective Iron Tongue are fronted by Chris ‘CT’ Terry, the founding frontman of sludge legion Rwake. The band formed when a group of veteran players with diverse musical backgrounds found a common interest in the need to get down and dirty.
Iron Tongue offer up songs of pain, regret and heartache that recall everything from the proto-metal stomp of Blue Cheer and Grand Funk to the darkest hours of Kiss, Deep Purple, Buddy Guy and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Iron Tongue have signed to Neurot Recordings and will release their debut full-length The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown on May 27 in Europe/May 28 in North America.
Called “a solid slab of shameless, balls-to-the-wall rock, with a power and an edge and soul that rarely exists in music today” by Neurosis’ Steve Von Till, the seven-track offering was recorded and produced by soundsmith Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis, etc) at Iron Tongue guitarist Jason Tedford’s Wolfman Studios.
Check out a track from the album called Lioness below – all eight-and-a-half minutes of it. And don’t be fooled by the relatively low-key beginning, with backing vocalist Stephanie Smittle trilling away merrily. We urge you to wait until 1.29, which is when the mayhem really kicks in!
