Music: Howlin Rain cover Grateful Dead and James Gang

Rain men: Ethan Miller (first left) and co

We love a bit of Howlin Rain here at the Classic Rock website – and, just to make it clear, we’re talking about the San Fran band, not the precipitation-packed Great British Summertime. Come inside to grab a listen to both sides of the Howlin ones’ brand new single.

Tracks: Howlin Rain – When The Morning Comes / Collage

File under: sensitive, not to say tremulous, version of the Dead classic, coupled with a CSN&Y-flavoured rendition of the JG gem

Howlin Rain will release a limited-edition 7-inch single (500 in clear vinyl and and 500 in blue vinyl) on September 17. It contains covers of The Grateful Dead’s When The Morning Comes as well as the demo version of The James Gang’s Collage – the final studio version of which features on the band’s third album The Russian Wilds, released earlier this year via Agitated Records.

(Incidentally, we love The James Gang’s 1969 release Yer’ Album, upon which Collage first appeared. Just thought we’d mention that. We also love Howlin Rain’s single artwork, below, where they channel the spirit of Joe Walsh.)

…Oh, and Jerry Garcia:

Howlin Rain have now also confirmed a show at Nottingham’s The Maze for September 13.

Full UK dates are:
10-Sep – Leeds Wharf Chambers with Bilge Pump
11-Sep – Brighton The Haunt with Restlesslist
12-Sep – London The Garage support from Sleepy Sun
13-Sep – Nottingham The Maze with Pilgrim Fathers and Ulysses Storm
