Classic Rock Critics’ Top 50 Albums 2008: 6-4

Come on in to check out numbers 6 to 4 from this year’s Classic Rock Critics’ Poll.

6. Def Leppard
Songs From The Sparkle Lounge
Bludgeon Riffola/Mercury

Def Leppard’s ninth studio album is also their last for the Mercury label. It’s a supremely satisfying send-off, marking the band’s most varied and satisfying collection of songs since Hysteria. What a way to go.

5. Airbourne
Runnin’ Wild
Roadrunner

From AC/DC to the Angels, Cold Chisel to Rose Tattoo, no one plays no-frills rock like the Aussies. Airbourne’s earthy anthems are as raw and ready as a whorehouse in the outback. And, er, just as infectious.

4. Black Stone Cherry
Folklore & Superstition
Rhino

Proving they were worthy of Best New Band at last year’s CR Awards, BSC return with a blinding second album. It’s a record filled with dark power, haunting lyircs and swampy guitars. Just the way we like it.

Check out the rest of the critics’ list and come back tomorrow as we reveal our critics’ album of the year!
