yeah well the list is OK.
I 'm pretty sure there would be no heavy metal in the '80s hadn't it been for all those british garage HM bands.
I think the most interesting timespan is that of '79 -'81 -that;s when the heavy metal sound was curved. After that -and certainly after Maiden's number of the beast - heavy metal became what we all know today.
Still, I think Fist should have made it to the list - their first LP was brilliant. And Girlschool - come on now how could you forget 'em?

An interesting list but not essential in its entirity as some people have pointed out. I'll have to say that the omission of the somewhat maligned Angel Witch is puzzling as their self titled opus is a masterpiece which many a band would have wanted to create. There were also a few other LP's overlooked such as Holocaust - The Nightcomers as well as other fans favourites like Quartz- Stand Up and Fight, Vardis- 100 MPH and either of the Witchfinder General albums. Personally I like the first Praying Mantis album and the LP's by AIIZ, White Spirit and the first Gaskin un. Now that we've gotten a list of essential LP's how about a Top 25 of the best singles? Black Rose, Sledgehammer, Paralex, Mythra, Triarchy and whole heap more would be much appreciated. Cool to hear from fans from Dundee- do you remember Colossus? Good bloody tune of New Electric Warriors I seem to remember!

nowt wrong with thw MFM albums.
Of the northern bands I thought FIST were great and like Vardis a little.
Perhaps the NWOBHM was regional in some ways as being from Birmingham, the bands I really got into were Jameson Raid,Money,Cryer and Limelight

I liked Iron Maiden with Dianno and early def leppard but the appeal soon dwindled.

Ah the memories, Dundee Caird hall & that smell of the hall. The lights go down & the stalls being carried out by the bouncers. Iron maiden, Praying mantis & a local dundee band called Colliseum 11 on the metal for Muthas tour. Saving up sounds tokens for an album to arrive in the mail creased but playable.
I can also remember fist as a support for Gillan.
I also remeber a band called more who got pelted with fruit at Castle Donnington in 1981. Not their best gig!!!
Even after 30 years I still can't forget all that & glad I was there.
Having emigrated to Australia in 1982 it was like coming to a differant world as the scene here was just not the same.
I do like your choice of albums & the funny thing is I still have some of those albums. The even funier thing is my 11 year son is now into Saxon & maiden. I took him to see Iron maiden for his 10th birthday. It just goes to say that great music never dies & it spans the generations, it just gets better like an old Marshall, strat & les paul.
Bring back the walls of marshalls the long hair (even though mine is grey & falling out) the torn jeans, patches on the denim jackets.
