Is this the Second Wave of Psychedelia?

la Fleur Fatale
A new DIY movie from Swedish band La Fleur Fatale is set to chronicle their search to understand today’s rock scene and what it has in common with that of the 60s.

Proudly positioning themselves as part of ‘The Second Wave’ – also the name of the documentary – last year the band embarked on a journey to and through California. During two intense weeks they played with legendary psych musicians and met some of the people that were a part of the 60s, both musically and spiritually. Connecting the past with the present, musically and politically, the documentary asks: what is the difference between then and now? Is the Anonymous movement now what 60s anti war movement was back then? The Second Wave premieres online May 3rd. You can see a trailer for the film here:

On May 3rd they also release a new single, “How Long Is Too Long”, written by Duncan Faure of Bay City Rollers and Rabbitt who they met when filming. ”They are really one of my favourite bands now,” says Faure.

Who are La Fleur Fatale? Classic Rock readers may have heard them on the Killer Cobra sampler that came free with issue 178 bought in Tescos. They released their debut album in 2007 and have reached over 200 million people through licensing their music to TV shows and adverts (American Airlines, Six Flags, Eddie Bauer, Kaiser Permanente, Peak Season (MTV), Brew Masters (Discovery), AMC TV, Swedish TV4 Sport etc). They have toured the UK, Germany, Netherlands and also been to New York. They have played live on national Swedish TV on Nyhetsmorgon on TV4 and been acclaimed by the Swedish press as ”The best kept musical secret we got” (Groove 2009). So far they have released two albums, two EP’s and one single.

In the documentary, the band themselves know little about where they’re going on the trip through California. Instead they are given their next destination ‘An Idiot Abroad’-style: by their manager who calls them with instructions on where to go next. Everyone involved in the making of this documentary has been working pro bono, for love of the band and the project itself.
